Project 1: To investigate novel formulations for pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals
We are also looking for research personnel to join us in undertaking a wide-ranging project to investigate novel formulations for pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals, through, for example, novel particle formation processes, improved powder-interface properties, and intelligent coatings.
Applicants should have a PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or related fields. Graduate research or industrial experience in particle technology, formulation engineering and powder interface science will be preferred. Successful applicants will be expected to initiate new and innovative research within the project scope. They will also lead a team of scientists and engineers to build up capability. |
C4 Program: Process Science & Modeling
a) Process Engineering
We are looking for candidates with a Masters or PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or related fields, with a particular emphasis on one of the following research areas:
Design of pilot scale processes for research and development
Assessment of safe operation of pilot scale and kilogram scale equipment for research
Process flowsheeting and optimization
Economic evaluation of novel processes
Successful candidates will be expected to take novel laboratory scale processes and
carry out economic feasibility analysis
design semi-technical scale process for trials and scale up studies
carry out pilot scale trials for process development and design
provide outline flowsheet and process design of full scale process based on the pilot and laboratory scale studies
b) Process Systems and Control
We are looking for candidates with a Masters or PhD in chemical engineering or related fields, with a particular emphasis on process system engineering and process control.
Successful candidates will be expected to propose and carry out research into the design and control of novel processes in particular batch processes. They will also carry out studies to resolve industrial process control problems and optimization studies for industrial scale processes.
c) Reaction Engineering
We are looking for candidates with a Masters or PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or related fields, with a particular emphasis on reaction engineering and reactor design.
Successful candidates will be expected to carry out experimental and theoretical studies of complex chemical reactions, especially complex organic reactions typical of the pharmaceutical and fine chemicals industries. They will also measure chemical reaction rates and key kinetic variables to support the development of optimized full scale processes.
d) Safety & Chemical Hazards
We are looking for candidates with a Masters or PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or related fields, with a particular emphasis on one of the following research areas:
chemical hazard assessment of materials and reactions
risk assessment of chemical plant and operations
hazard analysis
Successful candidates will be expected to establish state of the art laboratory facilities for chemical hazard testing. They will investigate the hazards associated with reactions and materials under study in ICES. They will also assess the risks associated with proposed pilot plant operations and experimental processes developed in the laboratories.
e) Process Analytics & Chemometrics
We are looking for candidates with a Masters or PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or related fields, with a particular emphasis on one of the following research areas:
Application of advanced on line and at line analytical techniques
Application of state of the art chemometrics techniques for the study of chemical reaction mechanisms and kinetics
Successful candidates will be expected to develop new techniques for on line and at line process measurement analysis applied to complex reacting systems. The will establish state of the art measurement techniques in the laboratory and test them at both laboratory and pilot scale where applicable. They will also develop and apply state of the art chemometric and statistical techniques to reaction analytical data and interpret the information to provide insight into the mechanism and kinetics of reactions under study.
f) NMR techniques
We are looking for candidates with a Masters or PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or related fields, with a particular emphasis on one of the following research areas:
Application of advanced NMR techniques to the study of chemical and catalytic reacting systems
Application of solid state NMR techniques to new situations
Application of micro imaging techniques to heterogeneous catalysts, novel particles for a range of applications from catalysis to pharmaceutical and personal care products
Successful candidates will be expected to propose and carry out research projects in the application of NMR to a range of research areas relevant to ICES core research programs. |
C5 Program: OLED Research / Engineering Trainees
We are a member of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A-STAR), has three openings for research / engineering trainees to join the Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display technology programme. Successful candidates will be enlisted on the Research Training Programme (RTP) supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). This initiative aims to build a ready pool of talent with the new knowledge and capabilities required for emerging and high growth industries. The selected candidates will receive on-the-job training for 12 months in IMRE, before being deployed into industry. During the training period, the trainees will receive a monthly stipend of S$2,000.00, medical insurance and annual leave entitlements. Note that under the regulations of the RTP scheme, candidates will be bonded to the EDB after their training period.
Training / job scope:
Cleanroom processing and photolithography of OLED devices
Testing and forensic analysis of materials and devices
Use of controlled process documentation and report writing
Active involvement in associated collaborative industrial projects
Opportunities to formulate chemicals, design masks, develop test software and hardware, commission process equipment and build electronic drive circuits depending on specific skills or interests of the individual candidate
Requirements:

C6 Program:Post-Doctoral Fellowships
SIMTech and the universities work together on projects of mutual interest. Provision can be made for the engagement of post-doctoral fellows for the collaborative research projects.
Terms and Conditions
Post-doctoral fellows (PDFs) are recruited for Collaborative Research Projects (CRPs) to be proposed by the NTU or the NUS and SIMTech.
The contractual period is for the duration of the CRP which should not exceed three years.
The salary offered will be based on the PDF's qualifications and experience. The PDF is eligible to be considered for payment of performance bonus and standard medical benefits under the MSO scheme. A local PDF is eligible to receive the employer's contribution to CPF.
SIMTech will provide, on a case by case basis, airfares to a PDF recruited from overseas.
SIMTech will provide each PDF recruited from overseas an one-off settling-in allowance of S$1000.
A PDF is not required to serve any bond at the end of his appointment. |
